How Much Epoxy Resin Do I Need? Tabletop, River Table and Coats
The volume of epoxy is length × width × depth. A tabletop 48 × 24 in with a 1/8 in coat needs 88 fluid ounces (0.69 gallons) with 10% extra, mixed as 44 fl oz resin and 44 fl oz hardener at 1:1. The epoxy resin calculator does your size, depth and mix ratio.

Tips for a good pour
- Mix exactly by volume, with calibrated cups, and stir for the time on the label, scraping the sides and the bottom.
- Work in the right room temperature, 70 to 80°F, with the resin warmed to thin it and release bubbles.
- Seal wood first, and seal edges and cracks, so air does not escape and bubble up.
- Pour a thin layer at a time for deep casts, and let each layer gel before the next, as the maker says.
- Pop bubbles with a heat gun or a torch passed quickly over the surface, and cover the pour against dust.
- Wear a respirator, gloves and eye protection, and work in a ventilated room.
Mistakes to avoid
- Mixing a ratio by weight when the label gives volume, or the reverse.
- Pouring too thick in one go, which overheats the epoxy and yellows or cracks it.
- Not leveling the work before the pour. Epoxy finds its level, and any slope shows.
- Ordering too little. A second batch never matches the first exactly.

Frequently asked questions
How much epoxy do I need for a table?
For a 48 × 24 in tabletop with a 1/8 in flood coat, about 88 fluid ounces (0.69 gallon) including 10% extra. The epoxy calculator does your size.
How do you calculate epoxy for a river table?
Volume = length × width × depth. A river 48 × 24 in at 1 inch deep takes 702 fluid ounces with 10% extra. Deep pours need a special deep-pour resin.
How much epoxy covers a square foot?
A 1/8 inch coat covers about 12 square feet per gallon: roughly 11.0 fluid ounces for one square foot, with 10% extra.
What is the mix ratio?
Most table-top epoxies are mixed 1:1 by volume, and some are 2:1 or 3:1. Follow the label exactly, since a wrong ratio leaves the epoxy tacky.
How thick can I pour epoxy at once?
About 1/8 inch for a flood coat, up to 1/4 to 1/2 inch for casting resins, and up to 2 inches or more for deep-pour resins, in layers. Check the maker, since heat builds up in thick pours.
