2 yards of concrete by type
A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, so 2 yards is 54 cubic feet. Multiply by the weight of a cubic foot of the concrete you are using.
| Type of concrete | Density | Weight | US tons | Kilograms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lightweight concrete, a rough figure | 115 lb/ft³ | 6,210 lb | 3.11 | 2,817 |
| Plain concrete, no steel | 145 lb/ft³ | 7,830 lb | 3.92 | 3,552 |
| Reinforced concrete, and the usual rule of thumb | 150 lb/ft³ | 8,100 lb | 4.05 | 3,674 |
| Heavily reinforced, a rough figure | 160 lb/ft³ | 8,640 lb | 4.32 | 3,919 |
The slab 2 yards makes, and what it weighs per square foot
The total stays at 8,100 lb. A thinner slab spreads it over more ground.
| Slab thickness | Area from 2 yards | Weight per sq ft | Total weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 in | 216 sq ft | 37.5 lb | 8,100 lb |
| 4 in | 162 sq ft | 50.0 lb | 8,100 lb |
| 5 in | 130 sq ft | 62.5 lb | 8,100 lb |
| 6 in | 108 sq ft | 75.0 lb | 8,100 lb |
| 8 in | 81 sq ft | 100.0 lb | 8,100 lb |
Two yards: a small pour, a heavy load
2 yards is 54 cubic feet and 8,100 lb. That is 20% of a full 10-yard ready-mix truck, so it normally arrives as a part load. By hand it would be 90 bags of 80 lb mix, which is the point where most people stop mixing and order a truck.
At 4 inches thick it covers 162 square feet. The largest slab in our size pages that 2 yards will pour is a 10x15 slab: it takes 1.85 cubic yards and weighs 7,500 lb.
Worked example
2 × 27 = 54 cubic feet. 54 × 150 lb = 8,100 lb. 8,100 ÷ 2,000 = 4.05 US tons.

Frequently asked questions
How much does 2 yards of concrete weigh?
About 8,100 lb, or 4.05 US tons, for normal concrete at 150 lb per cubic foot. 2 yards is 54 cubic feet.
How many tons is 2 yards of concrete?
4.05 US tons (3,674 kg). Heavily reinforced concrete is nearer 4.32 tons and lightweight concrete 3.11 tons.
Will 2 yards of concrete fit in one truck?
Yes. A ready-mix truck carries around 10 cubic yards, so 2 yards is 20% of a 10-yard ready-mix truck.
Is 8,100 lb the wet or the cured weight of 2 yards of concrete?
It is a planning figure for either: we have no sourced separate cured weight for normal concrete, so this page does not give one. The Federal Highway Administration puts typical normal-weight concrete at 145 lb per cubic foot plain and about 5 lb more with reinforcement, and says ready-mix is accepted at delivery on its fresh (wet) density. At 145 lb per cubic foot 2 yards is 7,830 lb, 270 lb less than at 150. If a trailer, truck or floor limit is close, ask the plant for the fresh unit weight of your mix.
