About WeekendCalc (UK edition)

The UK edition of WeekendCalc is a set of free calculators for home improvement, building and DIY jobs in the UK. It tells you how much material to buy, in metres, square metres, litres and tonnes, and in the sizes UK merchants actually sell: 25 kg bags, 2400 × 1200 mm plasterboard, 600 × 600 mm slabs and 10.05 m wallpaper rolls. There is no signup, no popup and no wall of filler text.

How the calculators work

Every calculator runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are never sent to us. Each page explains its formula and assumptions in plain language and shows a worked example, so you can check the maths yourself or do it by hand if you prefer. Here is how we calculate and check our numbers.

Where a figure is a rule of thumb rather than a physical constant (for example, how many square metres a litre of paint covers), we say so and let you change it. The label on the tin or bag always wins over our defaults.

UK guidance

Where a calculator leans on UK guidance, such as the Building Regulations Approved Documents, we name the source on the page. Building Regulations differ in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, so check the rules for your own nation with your local authority building control.

How the site pays for itself

WeekendCalc is free to use. It earns money from display advertising and from affiliate links to tools and materials related to the job you are calculating. On UK pages those links go to www.amazon.co.uk. If you buy through one of them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are marked, and they never change a calculator result.

Accuracy

We test each calculator against hand calculations and published product data. Even so, results are estimates for planning, not engineering or professional advice. See the terms and disclaimer. If you spot a mistake, please tell us; corrections are made quickly.
